Guess what President Clinton did in February, 1997?
He proposed a budget that would INCREASE military spending and CUT FUNDING for Social Security and Medicare! The military proposal is a 4.4% increase over last year, and the social program cuts pit the interests of young and homeless people against elderly people.
The Republican Congress has criticized the Clinton budget as "soft on defense," and has also been inclined to make cuts from entitlement programs, rather than trimming $140 billion in corporate welfare.
To fight these cutbacks, we have established an e-mail discussion for campus activists to challenge these priorities at the federal or state level. The list is called CAN-BUDGET (Campus Activists' Network on Budget issues).
To contact the list's facilitator, email can-budget@pencil.math.missouri.edu.
We invite you to subscribe to this list; you may unsubscribe at any time. We ask that to keep list volume down you be careful not to post things to the list that you wanted to send to an individual.
