What's the Truth?
Our ability to make money depends on the entire society -- roads, bridges, research, education, etc. Our lives are connected to the lives of others who, working less than we do or working harder, may be less "self-sufficient" than we are.
Bill Gates, Ross Perot, and the Sultan of Brunei did not make their billions all by themselves.
When we earn a paycheck, it is only fair that some of that money be taxed so that it may be invested in the infrastructure for future generations, or to ensure the survival needs of others who may be less fortunate.
