What's the Truth?
Before 1993, the U.S. government paid banks huge fees to run the student loan program. When the government started a "direct lending" program to bypass the banks, they saved millions of dollars, to the chagrin of big banks.
Recently, many states have contracted their prisons to well-connected private companies, the leaders of which have made huge profits by selling out prison labor for less than $1 an hour.
Those who tout "private enterprise" don't seem to mind using public dollars for their own private gain.
