  1. "If our military forces are not big enough to fight two major wars at the same time, we will invite attacks from other countries."

  2. "The U.S. Constitution prevents us from spending our tax dollars on social programs."

  3. "Secret budgets for U.S. agencies like the C.I.A. and the National Security Agency are allowed under the Constitution."

  4. "Subsidizing arms sales to other countries will provide good jobs in the U.S. and enhance national security."

  5. "Welfare and social security programs must be cut to 'save our future.' "

  6. "Paying the cost of mergers between multi-billion dollar defense contractors is the responsibility of U.S. taxpayers."

  7. "We need to cut student aid in order to balance the federal budget."

  8. "We are spending far more on social programs than other industrialized countries."

  9. "The main reason government programs are privatized is to save taxpayers money."

  10. "Spending more tax dollars on prisons will stop the epidemic of violent crime."

  11. "The military will provide the skills necessary to get a good job when you discharge."

  12. "High levels of military spending have no impact on social welfare."

  13. "Military spending cuts will endanger national security because we are already unable to give our troops the latest in high-tech weapons."

  14. "The U.S. is falling under control of foreign powers, led by the United Nations."

  15. "We need to increase the military budget to stop the growth of terrorism by fundamentalist groups."

  16. "Military research funding on campus lowers tuition."

  17. "A high Department of Defense budget benefits African-American and Latino communities because the military is the most integrated institution in society."

  18. "The military budget is not a women's issue."

  19. "We can cut taxes and increase the military budget without increasing the budget deficit."

  20. "People who make money make it all on their own."

  21. "The $4 trillion spent on the military in the U.S. since 1953 was all for defense."

  22. "With their new 'don't ask don't tell' policy, the military no longer discriminates against gays, lesbians, and bisexuals."

  23. "Welfare has caused teenage women to become pregnant."

  24. "The budget deficit was primarily caused by high spending on social welfare programs."
